Last Friday night, an estimated 500 vehicles turned a local intersection into a makeshift arena for sideshow antics, drawing the attention of multiple law enforcement agencies. According to a Facebook post by the Vallejo Police Department, the spectacle occurred at Mare Island Way and Harbor Way and involved a Cadillac CT6 from which an individual harassed officers with a laser.
The incident escalated promptly when the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) Air Operations Unit reported that a person inside the 2007 Cadillac had begun to recklessly shine a laser inside their flight deck while performing car stunts. The Vallejo police, bolstered by forces from the Solano County Sheriff's Office and others, swiftly moved to disband the sideshow and stop the Cadillac, only to have the driver boldly attempt to flee. A pursuit followed, ending in Hercules, CA, where the occupants bailed, and a rather unexpected passenger — a 10-foot python — was found left behind in the car.
All four suspects from the vehicle were detained with the help of the CHP Air Unit, the Hercules Police Department, and the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office's canine unit. The driver faced multiple charges, including felony evading, while the other passengers were slapped with misdemeanor citations. The aftermath had the Cadillac towed and the python, somewhat strangely, returned to its criminally charged owner. There's no news on whether the reptile was an unwitting accomplice or just along for the ride.
