Clark County residents can now return to the Vancouver Girls Softball Association fields and the Salmon Creek Greenway trail, after a brief closure due to a water line break earlier this week. The disruption, which had caused a sewer line to overflow in the area, prompted a swift response from local authorities. As noted in a recent update on the Clark County website, crews have worked rapidly to make the recreational spaces accessible again to the public.
According to the Clark County Public Works announcement, the field and trail closures were necessary to ensure public safety and facilitate the clean-up operations, however, they did not provide an estimated time for when the maintenance would be completed, which left some local sports teams in a lurch. Collaboration among Clark County Public Works, Clark Public Utilities, Clark Regional Wastewater District, and Clark County Public Health was crucial to addressing the situation effectively and ensuring the impacted areas were sanitized and restored for community use.
The clean-up activities led by Clark Regional Wastewater District have concluded, and assurances have been made that the trail and ballfields are now safe for visitors. Nevertheless, the main entrance to the Salmon Creek ballfields will remain closed for a tad longer while Clark Public Utilities continues its work on the water main repair. In the meantime, visitors to the area may notice portable toilets, which have been provided near the ballfields to accommodate the public until the construction is completed.
