Early Tuesday morning, a motorist barreled through the front doors of a Chipotle Mexican Grill in Van Nuys, leaving behind extensive damage. The incident occurred at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard, according to ABC7. Authorities were alerted to the crash shortly before 5:30 a.m.
The driver, who sustained injuries in the crash, was treated right there, at the scene. The Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division is currently investigating the cause of the accident, and no definitive conclusions have been drawn as to what led to the driver's abrupt entrance into the eatery. Meanwhile, the LAPD has not indicated whether drugs or alcohol may have played a role, as reported by KTLA.
Dramatic aerial footage captured by Sky5 showed a gaping hole where the vehicle had smashed its way through the establishment's facade. The area surrounding the crash site was cordoned off with police tape, though it was uncertain if any patrons or staff inside the Chipotle were hurt during the incident.
After the collision had wreaked havoc on the front entrance of Chipotle, the vehicle was removed from the structure and towed away to facilitate further investigation and repairs. Recovery efforts at the restaurant commenced swiftly, in the hopes of restoring normalcy to the corner.
