Tragedy struck the Philadelphia rap community as Abdul Vicks, also known as YBC Dul, a prominent figure in the West Philly music and gang scene, was fatally shot in the Olney section last week. The PhillyVoice reports that the day before his death, Vicks featured in a video brandishing firearms and boasting about his reputation for violence, sparking concern over possible connections to the incident.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on August 23, on the 5500 block of North Sixth Street, Vicks, aged 25, suffered multiple bullet wounds while driving. Despite rapidly being transported to Einstein Medical Center, he did not survive the attack. Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore detailed to the Inquirer how a vehicle pulled alongside Vicks' rented Hyundai, and without hesitation, delivered several shots into the car before fleeing the scene.
As the police investigate the violent death, Vicks' reputation as the leader of the Young Bag Chasers (YBC) rap crew, known for their gun violence and criminal activity, is significant. His music, which often dissed rivals and referenced deaths, earned him the nickname 'Mr. Disrespectful' and a large following on YouTube and Spotify, according to the PhillyVoice.
Complicating the investigation, a new surveillance video, released by Philadelphia police and described by 6abc, has brought to light footage of the moments leading up to the shooting. The video depicts a white Hyundai Santa Fe next to Vicks' vehicle, the stage set for the gunfire that would promptly ensue. The police have since secured the Hyundai in connection with Vicks' untimely demise, though no arrests have yet been made.
