A Westland woman is facing multiple charges after a harrowing incident where she allegedly drove her car into several vehicles and injured a pedestrian. Last Saturday night, multiple vehicles suffered major damage, and 32-year-old pedestrian Luke Vinsko was severely injured when a 43-year-old woman intentionally hit the cars on Florence Street. Westland Police Department officials say alcohol and drugs were factors in the incident.
According to WWJ Newsradio, the incident occurred near the area of Wildwood Street and Ford Road around 7:15 p.m. The woman, whose name is withheld pending arraignment, was found by officials sitting in her vehicle at the scene and was subsequently taken into custody. The victim, Luke Vinsko, was reportedly pinned underneath one of the struck vehicles, which belonged to him and his wife, Hailey, who had recently returned from a date night out, their first since the birth of their twin sons.
A GoFundMe page created by a friend of the Vinsko family reveals the grim aftermath of the event. Matthew V. Tacia explained on GoFundMe that apart from property damage, Luke "became pinned underneath their own vehicle" leading to an "emergency amputation to his leg," information corroborated by Hometown Life. The fundraiser had garnered over $11,000 by Monday afternoon to help with the Vinsko family's medical and repair costs.
The suspect appears to have had a motive connected to a prior romantic relationship. She was allegedly attempting to cause harm to an ex-boyfriend who once lived at the Vinskos' address, as the Detroit Free Press reports. Witnesses recall seeing the suspect laughing before breaking into tears upon being confronted by officers at the scene. Both of the Vinskos' vehicles were totaled in the incident, and the GoFundMe aims to assist with these unexpected expenses.
The woman is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning in the 18th District Court. As part of the ongoing investigation into this deliberate act, the Westland Police Traffic Bureau, alongside the Western Wayne Crash Response Team, is preparing to submit findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for a full review of the events leading to this unfortunate calamity.
