A Wilmington man faces multiple charges, including DUI and intent to deliver controlled substances, after a traffic stop in Newark. Donelle Harris, 43, was arrested early in the morning on August 18, after a trooper observed a dark grey Ford Edge speeding and committing several traffic infractions on I-95 southbound, as reported by Delaware State Police.
According to the Delaware State Police press release, the vehicle operated by Harris was traveling over 85 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, failing to maintain its lane, and following other vehicles too closely. After administering Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and noting signs of impairment such as the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, Harris was taken into custody without incident.
During a subsequent search, police found approximately 5.24 grams of crack cocaine, 34 pills of oxycodone hydrochloride and acetaminophen, as well as drug paraphernalia on Harris. The paraphernalia included a digital scale and multiple cell phones, which are often associated with drug dealing operations.
Harris has been charged with two counts of possessing Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance, a felony, in addition to charges for driving under the influence of alcohol, aggressive driving, speeding, and other traffic violations. As per the Delaware State Police, he was taken to Troop 2, where he was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $24,500 cash bond.
