As per CBS News Philadelphia, the woman, in her mid-to-late 30s, was trying to mediate a fight that broke out just after midnight on the 2500 block of Kensington Avenue when she was shot by someone who police believe was not aiming at her. Police Inspector D.F. Pace stated that "it appears the victim was an unintended target." The incident occurred outside a store in an area known for its late-night gatherings, especially during the summer months.
Surveillance footage has become a crucial element in this investigation, capturing the moment when the 41-year-old woman stepped in between the confrontational parties before a gun was drawn and fired. The victim was struck at least once in the upper body, according to FOX 29. No arrests have been made in the aftermath of the shooting, and the search for the suspect, along with their weapon remains ongoing.
The vicinity of the shooting near A Street is notorious for nighttime gatherings and the Philadelphia City Council had instituted a curfew earlier this year, mandating many businesses to close between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., allowing only restaurants with liquor licenses to operate until 2 a.m. The ordinance, however, did not prevent the crowd from assembling nor the incident from taking place.
