A tragic incident unfolded at Lake Waxahachie last Saturday when a 21-year-old man drowned while trying to save a teenager from drowning. The Waxahachie Police and Fire-Rescue departments received the call around 12:45 p.m. and promptly responded to Boat Dock Park where the incident occurred. According to the Waxahachie Police Department, the male victim had attempted a rescue a teenage girl who appeared to be in distress in the water.
The teen was part of a large church group from Garland, Texas, and she was eventually saved by an individual boating from Red Oak, Texas. The Good Samaritan performed CPR, reviving the girl before she was transported to the hospital for further medical care. Meanwhile, the man who first attempted the rescue was pulled from the lake and taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. As protocols demand, authorities are notifying the next of kin and have chosen to withhold the name of the deceased out of respect for the family's privacy.
The community reacted with shock and grief over the loss of the young man, whose actions reflected a profound courage. The Waxahachie Police Department expressed their sentiments in a condolence message, "The Waxahachie Police Department, along with the entire community, would like to extend our deepest condolences to the victim's family." This statement reflects a collective mourning, acknowledging the young life lost in an act of valor.
