The Youngwood community is gearing up to say a final goodbye to their local Sheetz store located on N 3rd Street. The establishment, known for its convenience for a quick meal or a gas stop, is slated to shut down come October 7, according to TribLive. The closure is set, despite recent renovations, leaving locals without a familiar rest stop along Route 119.
While Sheetz has not publicly stated the reason behind the closure, it did ensure that staff would not have to suddenly find new employment. "We thank our customers for their years of support and look forward to serving them at our nearby locations," Nick Ruffner, PR Manager for Sheetz stated, as per WPXI. Ruffner confirmed all employees were offered positions at other Sheetz locations in the area.
The impact of this closure extends beyond just losing a spot to quickly grab goods or fuel. Youngwood's Mayor Kris Long expressed concern for how the absence of Sheetz will affect local convenience, particularly for residents who relied on the establishment for various essentials. "It’ll take away from the convenience of that end of town," Mayor Long said in an interview, as detailed by TribLive. Long also emphasized the importance of finding a new purpose for the soon-to-be vacant property, hoping to prevent it from becoming an eyesore.
The Youngwood store sits between two newer Sheetz locations, which may absorb the customer flow once this store ceases operations. As this local store is preparing to close, Sheetz expansion efforts persist elsewhere with a celebrated inaugural store in Michigan and plans for up to 60 more in the Detroit area. Additionally, a new Sheetz store is in the pipeline for Davis Plaza along East Pittsburgh Street in Greensburg, still awaiting PennDOT approvals, TribLive reports.
