A high-speed chase unfolded in Grand Terrace as a 17-year-old from Colton led San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputies on a wild pursuit this past Thursday, according to official reports. Deputy J. Causey, on patrol duty, attempted to pull over the juvenile for a vehicle registration and helmet law violation at approximately 2:49 P.M. on West Main Street and Iowa Avenue.
Instead of complying, the teenager on an off-road motorcycle ignited a pursuit, darting away from the emergency lights and sirens, weaving through traffic and across sidewalks, the erratic journey spanned roughly four miles including travel north on the I-215 freeway, during which, the perpetrator dodged numerous stop lights and veered onto sidewalks, notably around Barton Road and Town Square, creating a perilous environment not just for himself but for unsuspecting bystanders and motorists caught in the fray.
The Sheriff’s Aviation was called in to support ground units, which, after a tense 20-minute chase, spotted the suspect taking a hazardous corner, subsequently guiding deputies to his location for apprehension, as relayed by the Sheriff-Coroner Department's press release. The suspect was then arrested without further incident and faced charges of felony evading but was later cited and released to his parent.
