Thornhill was attending a street party in the 14900 block of Cherrylawn Street in northwest Detroit when he was shot around 12:50 a.m. After the tragic incident, Police Chief James White said, "And we believe that someone knows what happened and that they have information that could help us bring some degree of closure to his family," at a news conference, as per The Detroit News. Celebratory gunfire is the preliminary suggested cause of the shooting, with no specific shooter identified yet.
