Firefighters in North Hollywood battled a significant blaze yesterday at a vacant duplex, successfully extinguishing the flames within 17 minutes, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The property, located at 5036 N Vineland Avenue, was a two-story building, originally erected in 1951 and spanning just over 1000 square feet.
The LAFD reported that upon arrival, crews were met with intense flames and adopted a defensive strategy, attacking the fire from the outside before they could safely make an interior assault to thoroughly douse the fire. Efforts by the 34 firefighters on the scene were coordinated, and efficiently executed, containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures, no injuries were reported in the incident which is now under investigation to determine its cause.
The damage to the duplex was severe, affecting both floors, though no injuries were reported in the incident.
Residents were alerted to the presence of emergency personnel and the fire's outbreak through the LAFD's alert system, various units including E102, E227, and E278 among others, were dispatched to combat the conflagration; contributing to the quick knockdown of what could have potentially been a far more devastating event for the North Hollywood area. Further details on the cause of the fire will be made available once the investigation concludes.
