Annapolis is getting a modern parking overhaul. In collaboration with SP+, a company under the Metropolis umbrella, the city has announced a new gateless parking system for the Knighton and Gott’s Court Garages. According to the City of Annapolis announcement unveiled to the public to enhance the customer experience, the system will be operational on Monday, September 30.
Here's how it works: The gateless parking system uses License Plate Recognition (LPR) to track when you enter. Scan a QR code in the garage with your smartphone to get started. According to the city's announcement, you find a spot, scan the QR code, enter your phone number, license plate, and payment info, and then you’re good to go! When you leave, you don’t have to do anything else; the system automatically calculates your payment based on how long you parked.
For those who call Annapolis home, there remains the perk of two hours of free parking with validation. City residents need only reach out to SP+ for a new QR code-based validation. The same creature comfort extends to patrons of local businesses through the Park Shop & Dine program. This setup seems primed to jive with the ease and efficiency mantra of today’s fast-paced world.
Metropolis has prompted these customers to update their information for a seamless transition. For group accounts, the baton is passed to the respective organizational managers to field queries. The SP+ touch will not be entirely gone; they're just a contact away for those who might hit a snag with their account.
