Austinites with an appetite for sushi are in for a treat as the city gears up to welcome two Japanese dining experiences designed to indulge those sushi and sashimi cravings. South Austin has recently embraced Machi Sushi, a new all-you-can-eat sushi spot located at 2200 South I-35 Service Road, which opened its doors in mid-August, offering a rich menu that spans from hand rolls to fried vanilla ice cream.
Looking to expand the buffet dining scene, Stephen Lin and his team are set to introduce Oumi, an all-encompassing Japanese buffet expected to start serving by March 2025. Located at 13945 N. U.S. 183, Suite D180, Oumi aspires to bring affordable Japanese cuisine to Central Texas. Lin's team, according to MySA, includes members relocating from New York, fired up to showcase their culinary expertise garnered from two decades in the fine dining scene.
While Oumi's construction is forecasted to cost $600,000 and is not due to start serving until 2025, this project marks another ambitious stride to cater to Austin's robust food culture. "We know how strong the Austin demographic is, so we want to expand to a new concept,” Lin elucidated. The restaurant, boasting an 8,777-square-foot space for daily dining from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., aims to offer an array of sushi, sashimi, hibachi, and other seafood options, complemented by a full-service bar and cocktail menu.
Machi Sushi, meanwhile, has quickly made a name for itself with varying all-you-can-eat pricing for lunch and dinner. Patrons can incredibly enjoy a spread of Japanese cuisine with dishes that include soup, udon, yakitori, and intriguing dessert options like tempura Oreos, according to Eater Austin. Diners preferring takeout are also covered, with online ordering available. Indoor dine-in services cater to those yearning for the communal aspect of a hearty meal in a vibrant setting.
With anticipation building for Oumi's debut next year, the countdown begins for enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in a new world of Japanese delicacies. As Austin's food landscape continues to evolve, these establishments are poised to satisfy the community's diverse palate and reaffirm the city's reputation as a haven for food lovers.
