A comic book store in Belmont, along with other businesses, was targeted in a vandalism spree involving racial slurs. The incidents took place along E. Catawba Street, a notable change in the otherwise quiet town. Belmont Police Department has identified three juveniles responsible for the malicious defacement of Doc’s Basement Comics, Toys, and Games, as reported by WBTV.
Upon discovering the slurs painted on the building, the store’s owner took to Facebook, expressing both a deep sense of betrayal and a call to the community's parents: "Parents, I need you to do better," WSOCTV reports. In a town known for its genteel pace and neighborly conduct, the act comes as a stark, unsettling contrast, disrupting more than just the physical space it defamed.
The municipality acted quickly, with officers removing the offensive language from the properties. While details about the juveniles involved are limited due to their age, they will face juvenile petitions as a step toward accountability. This shows local law enforcement's effort to restore the community's sense of security, as reported by WCNC.
