Following a hit-and-run incident late last month in Gastonia, authorities have apprehended the suspected driver. Logan Thomas Bowling of Bessemer City faces charges of felony hit and run along with unsafe movement of a vehicle, as reported by QC News.
The Gastonia Police Department received a critical tip that led them to Bowling’s place of employment. This development came after the crash that occurred on August 30, involving a van and resulting in injury to two individuals. WBTV provided coverage of Bowling's van, captured on video, making a reckless turn on North New Hope Road at Court Drive. This maneuver prompted another vehicle to swerve and ultimately crash into a nearby unoccupied house, which was then condemned due to the extent of the damage caused.
Surveillance footage showed the van driven by Bowling recklessly turning in front of a vehicle, which had to suddenly swerve out of the way, causing it to collide into a gray house at the aforementioned intersection. The vehicle occupants were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, as QC News noted in their report.
One of the victims in the hit-and-run was identified as Michael Barrett, who was engaged in medical transport at the time of the incident. He told WBTV, "Bear in mind I’ve got a pregnant woman in the back of my car." The impact forced Barrett's vehicle into a house's living room, where he and his passenger were extracted by firefighters.
The investigation remains ongoing, although Bowling is awaiting legal proceedings for his alleged role in the incident. The Gastonia Police Department continues to encourage anyone with additional information to come forward, as stated in an update by WCCB Charlotte.
