
A Bryan resident has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison following a conviction for the attempted robbery and assault of a postal worker, according to a statement released by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Adon Bryce Clary, 26, was found guilty by a jury after deliberating for two hours; the charges included attempted robbery of a post office using a dangerous weapon, assault of a public official with a dangerous weapon, and assault of public officials with intent to commit a felony, all stemming from an incident that took place on April 29, 2019.
During the trial, which lasted four days, emotional testimonies were given by five postal workers and three customers who were at the 2121 Wm. Bryan Parkway post office in Bryan when Clary threatened them while brandishing an object that appeared to be a firearm but was in fact an empty pack of green Paul Maul menthol cigarettes Clary also assaulted and attempted robbery, this by banging a Game of Thrones beer bottle during the ordeal. This trial included evidence such as body camera video from responding officers and a cell phone video recorded by a postal worker, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office Southern District of Texas.
The sentencing was conducted by U.S. District Judge George Hanks, who, upon considering statements from victims, "Clary could not be trusted to not put others in harm’s way if released," underscoring the lasting impact the event had on those involved one victim explained the harrowing experience and the effect it continues to have on their lives, as outlined in the official press release.
In addition to the prison term, Clary will face three years of supervised release following incarceration, Clary is currently being held in custody pending transfer to an appropriate U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility this determination is expected to occur in the near future. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph Anthony Porto and Adam Laurence Goldman and investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
