Cleveland Men Plead Guilty to Arson That Resulted in $750K Damage, Death of Family DogSource: Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office

Two men have pled guilty to an array of charges after a fire they set resulted in extensive damage to a Cleveland home and tragically claimed the life of a family's dog. Tyric Green, 21, and D’Andre Morris, 22, admitted to their roles in the arson that occurred in April. According to a WKYC report, the fire inflicted more than $750,000 in damage and endangered a West Side family.

Details reveal that Green and Morris returned to the home near West 106th Street and Clifton Boulevard after a failed initial attempt to burn it down using an ignitable liquid. On their second attempt, in the early hours of April 21, they set the structure ablaze, as per information obtained by FOX8. Escaping the inferno were the occupants, a couple and their seven-month-old baby, who fled to safety by jumping from a second-story window. However, the family dog, named Salami, did not survive the ordeal.

Green faces numerous charges, including ten counts of aggravated arson and forgery stemming from an attempt to mislead the landlord with a fraudulent letter, as reported by Cleveland19. The landlord, who had not received rent for three months, was connected to Green through his grandmother, who was the actual tenant of the property owned by the victims, Freitas and Cecelia Li.

During the legal proceedings, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley was quoted by WKYC as saying, "It is by the grace of God this family escaped this horrific fire." He also expressed relief that the family was able to survive, although their pet's fate was lamentable. Unfortunately, their family dog, Salami, did not survive. This plea is the first step in holding these two idiots accountable, O'Malley added. Sentencing for the defendants is scheduled for September 24 in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
