A tragic event unfolded at the gates of Headlands Beach State Park in the early hours of the morning when a 42-year-old Cleveland woman, identified as Jacqueline M. Ferebee, died in a vehicular crash. WKYC reports that the crash occurred at approximately 5:08 a.m. when Ferebee's 2021 Polaris Slingshot collided with the park's entrance gate on Route 44 in Lake County, which closed then.
Police authorities received a distress call after the vehicle struck the gate, continued northbound, and ultimately ended up in the brush off the street's east side. Ferebee, alone in the three-wheeled motorcycle, was wearing her seat belt, as noted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in a statement obtained by FOX8.
Troopers have yet to determine whether the influence of drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. According to authorities, the exact contribution of these factors, along with the potential role of speed, remains under active investigation. Meanwhile, the accident scene prompted closures in the area for several hours, disrupting early morning traffic and park access.
The Highway Patrol has not only commenced a thorough investigation into the crash but also encouraged anyone with information to come forward to assist in piecing together the events leading up to the fatal moment. "it is unknown if alcohol, drugs, or speed were a factor in this fatal crash," the Highway Patrol said in a statement relayed by Cleveland19 News.
