After being found guilty on nine felony charges, 20-year-old Keimariyon Ross was sentenced to 32 years to life in prison for the murder of Youngstown State University student Kevin Sobnosky during a shootout at a Sheetz gas station in Columbus last year, NBC4i reported. Sobnosky, also 21, was inadvertently caught in the gunfire that erupted early on October 30, 2022.
The confrontation that led to the fatal shooting involved two groups at the Sheetz on North Cassady Avenue, near John Glenn International Airport, and Ross fired several rounds at approximately 3:50 a.m., which tragically ended Sobnosky's life, according to information from ABC6. Sobnosky, unfortunately, was passing by the area in a vehicle with three others when the bullets struck him. He succumbed to his wounds more than 12 hours after being taken to the hospital.
In court, the victim's mother, Laura Sobnosky, shared the heart-wrenching impact of her son's death, saying, "He was kind and loving to everyone" during the sentencing hearing, a sentiment she conveyed while reportedly reading from a sheet of paper, captured by The Dispatch.
Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Stephen McIntosh delivered the sentence, ensuring Ross faces the possibility of life behind bars, with parole eligibility only after he serves 32 years, an outcome that finalizes one chapter of the ordeal that tore through the fabric of the Sobnosky family's life after losing their honor student son to a random act of violence in an instant that shattered their world forever.
