This incident included vandalizing Israeli flags and making anti-Semitic remarks. After Hillel officials requested a restorative justice plan, additional charges against the pair, including ethnic intimidation, theft, and criminal mischief, were dropped. Instead of further legal action, the two women engaged in a series of actions, including attending hours-long listening and learning sessions, sharing a meal with a local rabbi, and participating in a center workshop. They concluded their restorative justice plan by speaking to Hillel’s board about their experiences, according to NBC4i. Their plea followed an upward trend in antisemitic incidents, with Julie Tilson Stanley, CEO of JewishColumbus, noting, "Antisemitism is up 360% since last October, and in Columbus, antisemitic instances are up 40 %," as obtained by FOX28.
Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein emphasized the seriousness of bias-fueled crimes, stating, "Hate has no home in Columbus", he added that each case is considered individually, listening to the victims to pursue the most suitable outcome, and balancing accountability with therapeutic opportunities, as detailed by The Columbus Dispatch.
