A man was taken into custody in north Denver following the death of his roommate at a local motel, initiating a homicide investigation by Denver Police. According to 9News, police were called to the scene late Friday night in response to an emergency medical situation that was initially suspected to be a drug overdose.
Despite attempts by first responders to save the victim's life, the man was pronounced dead at the motel located on Vasquez Boulevard, near the intersection of 52nd Avenue, as detailed by The Denver Post. An official ID of the victim has yet to be released following standard procedure by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. After an autopsy was performed on Saturday, authorities found that the deceased man had sustained injuries significant, enough to suggest foul play.
The ensuing investigation led to the arrest of Dakotah Lulei, the 28-year-old roommate of the deceased, who is now being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and second-degree assault, as noted by KDVR. The specific circumstances surrounding the alleged homicide are still under investigation by Denver police detectives.
Although no formal charges have been filed against Lulei, the suspect remained in police custody as of Sunday afternoon, according to the Denver Sheriff’s Department. "The injuries led to police arresting the victim’s roommate on Saturday," a statement detailed from officials. The Denver District Attorney's Office is expected to make the final determination on charges after a thorough review of all gathered evidence, including autopsy results that pointed to "consistent with significant trauma," injuries, including internally.
