Tragedy has struck twice in Denver within less than 24 hours, with two deaths resulting from unrelated incidents, both leaving the community searching for answers and justice. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner has confirmed the victims as Ny’Loni Yates, a 2-year-old girl, and Fernando Alvarez-Chacon, a 35-year-old male, following a car collision and a shooting respectively, according to the City and County of Denver.
The incident involving young Ny’Loni occurred in the early hours of August 29th when Denver authorities were called to the scene at the intersection of S. Clinton Street and E. Alameda Avenue after a single-vehicle collision was reported, upon their arrival, the toddler was found deceased, the Denver Medical Examiner's Office stated that she suffered multiple blunt force injuries which led to her untimely death. The community has been shaken by her passing, with heartfelt tributes and a growing memorial at the site of the accident.
Later that same day, the consequential violence emerged again as Denver Health Medical Center alerted the Medical Examiner's Office to the death of Alvarez-Chacon, having been transported from W. Byers and S. Kalamath Street where the incident took place, an autopsy revealed he died from a gunshot wound, the manner of his death was determined to be a homicide, a revelation that adds to the city’s increasing concerns over gun violence.
