A cloud of mistrust has settled over the Durham Police Department as former officer Rayshawn Taylor faces serious allegations. According to CBS17, Taylor was charged on Monday with first-degree kidnapping, sexual servitude, and sexual battery. These charges follow a complaint from an August 21 incident, where Taylor is accused of committing the acts while on duty.
The Durham Police Department quickly placed Taylor on administrative duty, and he resigned the following day, August 22, before the internal investigation was completed. This swift sequence of events has shaken the local community, which expects those in uniform to uphold the law and the trust between law enforcement and the public. A criminal investigation was quickly launched, with the involvement of the FBI and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation
The recent arrest in Mebane was based on warrants obtained by investigators, as reported by WRAL. Searches conducted at Taylor's residence show how thoroughly authorities are pursuing the case. The Durham Police Department and investigators are asking the public to contact Corporal I. Harton of the Special Victims Unit if they have additional information or believe they have been victimized by Taylor.
To ensure full justice and potentially uncover any additional victims, the Durham Police Department has issued public appeals for information. "Anyone with information in the case or who believes they may have been a victim is asked to contact Cpl. I. Harton with the Special Victims Unit," the News Observer quoted.
