In an act of solemn remembrance, members of the El Dorado County Fire Protection District along with colleagues from Diamond Springs El Dorado Fire Protection District, paid tribute to those who fell on September 11, 2001. The firefighters participated in the 9/11 Stair Climb, a physically enduring endeavor, at Sacramento's Esquire Tower on K Street.
Matching the number of floors as the World Trade Center, the firefighters ascended 110 flights of stairs. Upon reaching the top, the participants presented nameplates and delivered salutes at a structure resembling the Twin Towers. In a statement shared by the El Dorado County Fire Protection District on their Facebook page, this annual event stands not only as a physical challenge but as a potent gesture of respect and remembrance: “Firefighters climbed to honor the lives of firefighters that made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11/2001.”
The 9/11 Stair Climb is not unique to Sacramento—it's a nationwide tribute that takes place annually in numerous cities across the United States. It is part of a broader movement to ensure that the sacrifices of 9/11 are permanently etched into our collective memory.
The climb represents not only physical effort but also a commitment to honor those who sacrificed their lives in service. Firefighters from El Dorado County and Diamond Springs lined up at the Esquire Tower, carrying forward a legacy of courage and dedication.
