Residents of Elkridge will have the opportunity to voice their concerns and learn about the upcoming transportation improvements in their community. According to Howard County's announcement, the Department of Public Works is hosting a community outreach meeting to discuss two key projects to enhance local infrastructure. The meeting is scheduled for September 25th at 5 p.m. in Elkridge Landing Middle School's cafeteria.

This public gathering will address the new sidewalk installation along Roosevelt Boulevard and improvements at the MD 103/US 1 intersection. "As your Howard County Executive, we have made record investments in transportation safety projects and Complete Streets in every corner of Howard County, including our Elkridge community," Calvin Ball, Howard County Executive, stated, per the county's press release. Ball underscored the county's financial commitment of $14.7 million in the Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Budget for such infrastructure projects.

The sidewalk delineated as Capital Project K-5036 will stretch from Business Parkway to Cemetery Road and include new curbs, gutters, and ADA ramps. Work on this project is expected to commence this fall and, weather permitting, wrap up by December 2024. Project J-4212 will focus on the MD 103/US 1 intersection, incorporating additional turn lanes, sidewalks, bike lanes, and storm management enhancements, with construction starting in the summer of 2025 and anticipated completion by fall 2026.

During the upcoming meeting, Howard County staff will be available to discuss the proposed work details, answer questions, and collect public feedback. With seven working days' notice, the Howard County DPW can arrange an interpreter for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. More information on the projects can be sought by contacting the Public Works Customer Service via phone or email.
