In a harrowing incident late yesterday night, a man, a woman, and an infant were found dead at a residence in East Columbus, the scene suggesting a grim murder-suicide. ABC6 News reported the deaths occurred in the 2900 block of East 12th Avenue, with authorities believing the man fatally shot his partner and their child before turning the gun on himself.
Responding to a distress call made at approximately 11:20 p.m., Columbus Police confronted a closed door and silence, forcing entry only to discover a scene that has grown hauntingly familiar in recent weeks, an uptick in domestic violence manifesting in the city's second murder-suicide in the past 24 hours and the fourth within three weeks; this is according to information provided by NBC4i.
While the identities of the deceased have not been released, the adult victims are believed to be the infant's parents. Columbus Police expressed despair over such domestic tragedies and a staunch plea against violence, “We beg and plead people, don’t resort to firearms to settle your disputes if you’re in a potential domestic violence relationship, reach out and get help. We don’t want any more victims,” said CPD Sergeant Joe Albert in a statement reported by NBC4i.
Amid this disturbing trend, authorities continue to urge individuals embroiled in domestic disputes to seek peaceful resolutions and support, suggesting resources like the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, the 24/7 Crisis Text Helpline, and local domestic violence programs, services aimed not just at averting tragedy but fostering healing, for preventative measures are critical given last year's 25 domestic violence homicides and this year's staggering 18, despite the year being far from over, so thus it stands.
