The incident, documented as INC#1632, occurred at the address 1157 S Lorena St. Initial reports from LAFD, made available via their website, described the structure as a liquor store.
However, the subsequent LAFD statement corrected the nature of the establishment to be a tool supply store, clarifying that firefighters had engaged in an aggressive and coordinated attack to manage the blaze. "Firefighters responded to a one-story commercial building (tool supply) with heavy smoke showing," the LAFD noted. The firefighting teams successfully executed vertical ventilation and extinguished the flames in approximately 38 minutes, as documented in a follow-up alert. The fire was kept within the confines of the unit of origin, sparing the adjacent cabinet shop from the destruction.
Further complexity was added to the emergency response when LAFD hazardous materials specialists were called to the scene after the discovery of lithium-ion batteries within the premises. The presence of such materials demanded additional caution and expertise given their volatile nature when subjected to high-heat conditions. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported during this incident, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the authorities.
