Fort Collins residents received some troubling news early Thursday as reports came in regarding a series of sexual assaults in the area. Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) confirmed the arrest of a man connected to multiple allegations of unlawful sexual contact, as obtained by the City of Fort Collins.
According to police reports, on August 6, the FCPS responded to an incident where a female victim reported being inappropriately touched by an unknown man. This individual allegedly made unwanted advances, and upon her refusal, he forcibly groped her. The suspect, described as a tall, dark-skinned male in his twenties, matched the description given by a second female who experienced a similar assault. This pattern of behavior raised concerns among local authorities and the community alike.
Investigative efforts led by the FCPS Strategic Operations Group and District One Patrol culminated in the arrest of Ronald Wilder on September 13, a man who was previously unfamiliar to the victims. Charged with Class 1 Misdemeanor for Unlawful Sexual Contact on two counts, Wilder posted a $250 cash bond and was released from Larimer County Jail.
“Sexual contact like this is not an everyday occurrence in this city and it is unacceptable behavior,” said Lieutenant Kelly Weaver, as per the City of Fort Collins, who oversees the SOG, "We want our community to feel safe. Remember, if you see something, say something." Although Wilder has been charged, it is essential to note that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
In light of these events, FCPS is urging anyone with additional information or who may have been a victim of similar incidents involving Wilder to come forward and contact Corporal Mike Harres at (970) 416-2372. Concerns linger that there may be additional victims not yet accounted for.
