In a developing case that underscores the tragic intersection of property crime and lethal force, four men have been arraigned in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in Dearborn, with subsequent charges ranging from second-degree murder to arson. According to ClickOnDetroit, the incident began on September 8 when Mohammed Haitham Ahmad and Ali Haitham Ahmad, opened fire on a vehicle they believed was involved in an auto theft on their property. During the gunfire, Paige Marie Knox was killed, and another individual, Shahid Al-Aziz Muhammad, was injured.
Authorities report that following the shooting, Shahid Al-Aziz Muhammad and another passenger, Ebony Aaron Pugh, fled the scene and later disposed of Knox's body in an alley in Detroit. With one another inconsistency marring the weave of otherwise detail-rich information, CBS News Detroit notes that the body and the burned remains of the vehicle were located in different areas of the city. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy lamented the series of events, emphasizing, "In Michigan, you cannot use deadly force to protect your car. As a result of the actions of these defendants, a young woman was shot and killed."
Both Ahmad brothers have been charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and felony firearm. Muhammad and Pugh are facing charges related to concealing a death, arson, and attempting to unlawfully drive away an automobile. According to WWJ Newsradio, Muhammad and Pugh have received a bond set at $250,000 cash each, while the Ahmad brothers were remanded without bond.
