On Monday, a sentencing in Los Angeles marked the culmination of a legal journey sparked by the violent departure of rapper PnB Rock, born Rakim Hasheem Allen. Freddie Lee Trone received a sentence of 31 years to life in prison for his role in the murder of PnB Rock at Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles in 2022, CBS News Los Angeles reported. Prosecutors convinced a jury that Trone was the architect behind a robbery that ended in gunfire, directing his then 17-year-old son to carry out the fatal act.
Accompanied by his fiancée, PnB Rock was dining when the tragedy unfolded, amplified by imagery of their meal shared on Instagram, stated Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Kelly Muniz, according to ABC7. After demanding jewelry at gunpoint, the assailant - Trone's son - shot PnB Rock multiple times before fleeing. It was later at a local hospital where the musician succumbed to his injuries.
During the legal proceedings, Freddie Lee Trone maintained his innocence, claiming absence at the crime scene. However, a video emerged showing him in the parking lot approximated 30 minutes before the shooting, a presence he attributed to "hustling business" for a nearby beauty shop. Meanwhile, Trone's son has been charged and is awaiting a determination of his competency to stand trial, as per details provided by CBS News Los Angeles.
Another individual, Tremont Jones, found his fate entwined in this criminal web, being handed a 12-year sentence for his involvement. While not charged with the murder itself, he was convicted of robbery and conspiracy linked to the tragic day's events. Notably, a third defendant, Shauntrel Trone, entered a no contest plea to being an accessory after the fact, with her sentencing awaiting her on Jan. 16, 2025, KTLA reported.
PnB Rock's legacy as a musician, known for his hit "Selfish" and collaborations with notable artists like YFN Lucci and Ed Sheeran, is overshadowed now by the somber narrative of his untimely death and the legal ramifications following it.
