The City of Frisco has dropped a health bombshell: four mosquito pools in the area have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). In a bid to squash the threat, the city is rolling out ground spraying starting tonight at 9 p.m., stretching into the early morning until 5 a.m. This twilight operation is not just a one-off; it's slated to repeat on Sunday night, the City of Frisco confirmed.
Frisco Lakes, Village Lakes, and Crosspointe Park—maps are circulating for all those concerned about the targeted zones. Several other neighborhoods from Miramonte to The Trails of West Frisco are on the hit list. If you're keeping score, that’s a total of 20 positive pools in the city that have been found this season, according to Frisco's health officials.
The threat may seem as clear and present as the Frisco sun, but there haven't been any confirmed human cases of WNV locally, as per the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). That doesn't mean residents should kick back and relax, though. On the contrary, city folk are being called to arms, or rather sleeves – 'Wear, Apply, and Remove' is the mantra being chanted by health officials. It's simple: don sleeves and pants at dawn and dusk, apply insect repellent religiously, and rid your homestead of any standing water to nip mosquito breeding in the bud.
Don't think this is an autumn fling for Frisco; the city maintains a vigilant eye on the pesky critters, with mosquito testing from May 1 through November 15. Now's the time to bone up on your bug defense and learn more about the city's mosquito game plan. For all the nitty-gritty, residents can buzz over to the city’s website or contact the City of Frisco’s Health & Food Safety Division for the 411 on WNV precautions.
