The regional Mexican and Tejano band Grupo Siggno has been hit by a significant theft, with around $200,000 worth of equipment and merchandise stolen from their U-Haul in San Antonio. Jesse Turner, the band's leader, shared the distressing news with fans during a Facebook live video on Monday, September 23. "Somebody stole all our lighting, all of our speakers, all of our equipment, even our merchandise," Turner said, as reported by MySA. The sentiment was echoed in Turner's words, "I'm a little bit heartbroken...you never expect it to happen to you but when it happens it's a hard pill to swallow."
The theft took place near City Base Landing in Southeast San Antonio, after the band had performed in Premont on Sunday, September 22. The stolen items including the band's video wall screens, sound system equipment, and speakers were discovered missing after authorities found the U-Haul abandoned. According to a San Antonio Current interview, Turner disclosed that the merchandise alone was valued at $14,000.
San Antonio Police Department, along with the Bexar County Sheriff's Department, are currently investigating the incident and are attempting to locate the stolen items. Grupo Siggno is also requesting assistance from the public, urging anyone with information to come forward and to be vigilant for anyone attempting to sell the expensive RCF equipment.
In light of the setback, the band has been considering renting equipment to ensure their scheduled performance in Irving on Friday goes ahead without interruption. Despite the significant loss, Turner remained resilient and determined, saying, "People can steal my equipment, people can steal my lighting, people can steal my screens that we have, but people cannot steal my drive and people cannot steal my work ethic." His statement to San Antonio Current reflects an unwavering commitment to his craft, "People cannot steal me doing what I love to do."
Grupo Siggno, hailing from Santa Rosa, Texas, has cultivated a strong following across Mexico and Texas. Their 2016 album "Yo Te Esperare" debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and the group has earned accolades such as a BMI Music Award, and a Latin Grammy nomination, bolstering their reputation as prominent figures in the Tejano music scene.
