Early in the hours of a September morning, the Santa Monica Police Department was swiftly called into action following an assault with a potentially fatal outcome. In response to a 911 call, officers were dispatched to the scene on the 1900 block of Ocean Avenue where a 24-year-old individual had been shot multiple times, as reported by the City of Santa Monica. Amidst the chaos, law enforcement officers managed to quickly provide essential first aid before paramedics arrived to transport the victim to a nearby hospital where they now remain in serious but stable condition.
During the investigation, police successfully apprehended several individuals attempting to hastily depart from the area. Among them was 19-year-old Isaac Santiago Ramos, from Van Nuys, who was later confirmed to be the gunman involved. Ramos was found in possession of a concealed handgun, an illegal transgression in its own right. According to the official Santa Monica Police Department statement, witnesses recounted that the altercation began when Ramos and a group approached the victim's friends, leading to a heated argument that tragically escalated when the victim attempted to intervene, becoming the target of multiple gunshots before the assailant tried to flee eastbound.
Isaac Ramos has since been arraigned with a list of charges that, beyond attempted murder, encapsulate the severity of his actions. These charges include mayhem and carrying a concealed and loaded firearm, as well as resisting arrest—an indication of the young man's alleged propensity to readily defy the law. With bail set at a monumental $4,105,000, the weight of the criminal justice system bears down heavily upon him.
