An off-duty Harris County deputy has been hospitalized following a motorcycle crash yesterday afternoon. The accident occurred while the deputy was conducting an escort for an oversized load in Chambers County, as reported by ABC13. According to the outlet, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of the Harris County Sheriff's Office stated that the crash happened just before 4 p.m. between the towns of Winnie and Anahuac.
The Chambers County Sheriff's Office, which also responded to the incident, indicated that the deputy was involved in a head-on collision with a pickup truck. The deputy was then taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Gonzalez remained hopeful, saying on X, "Great news. Upon arrival at the hospital, his prognosis is much better. Our deputy is said to be alert," as to closely paraphrase an ABC13 report.
However, a conflicting report from FOX26 Houston described the deputy's condition as critical. The news outlet indicated that Lifeflight was called to the scene to airlift the deputy to the hospital after the major crash on Highway 65.
Details surrounding the exact circumstances of the crash have not been released, and no updates to quickly follow on the deputy's current condition or the extent of his injuries. Sheriff Gonzalez, in his updates, has asked for the public's thoughts and prayers, as reported by FOX26 Houston.
