Harris County Constable's Office has acted upon a worrying case of a juvenile being targeted in an online scheme. The constable's patrol division was summoned to a residence on May 22, following an alarming discovery by the minor’s parents of an inappropriate online connection their daughter was involved in with an adult male. According to a statement released on the precinct's Facebook page, the incident has prompted a rigorous investigation.
The case, needing expertise and thorough scrutiny, was handed over to Constable Mark Herman's Criminal Investigations Division. It's there detectives authored several search warrants and pieced together the narrative through the examination of various electronic devices. An accumulation of thousands of chat messages revealed the distressing details of the interaction. The suspect, Wesley Burns, a 24-year-old man, has left digital traces leading to suspicious areas. According to the precinct's Facebook page, once cornered by the constable's investigators, Burns confessed to his crimes.
Following the confession, Burns has been charged with the felony of Online Solicitation of a Minor. Additional charges are waiting in the wings, pending a thorough review by the Harris County District Attorney's Office. Details regarding the suspect's bond have not been disclosed by the 177th District Court as of this reporting.
Constable Mark Herman's office has taken a clear and firm stance in this situation. In a statement extending beyond a usual proclamation, Herman declared in a Facebook post, "Our Office has taken a firm stance against child exploitation and will continue to dedicate the necessary resources to seek out and charge those who prey on our children."
