A Houston woman with part-time status as a teacher in the Houston Independent School District faces charges of child endangerment after allegedly locking her 12-year-old daughter outside of her residence. According to The Houston Chronicle, 43-year-old Georgette Albert and her daughter had a dispute which led to the child being left outside overnight on Saturday and eventually seeking refuge at a police station the next morning.
The incident reportedly occurred on East Houston Road, where the daughter tried unsuccessfully to gain entrance into the apartment. She resorted to spending the night on a bench before walking to the Northeast Patrol Station at around 7:10 a.m. According to ABC13, the police were informed and responded by contacting Child Protective Services and visiting the apartment complex where Albert initially claimed her daughter had run away.
Albert has been charged with engaging in conduct that posed a threat of bodily injury to a child under 15 by leaving them unsupervised outside overnight, as per court records. The case has been filed in the 180th District Court. After the arrest on Sunday, the child's care has been transferred to another family member.
While Albert's status as an educator with HISD has been confirmed—she is not a full-time employee and has worked with the district for approximately a year—measures are being taken to terminate her contract. The school district has yet to disclose the specific location or nature of Albert's role within HISD.
