Residents and stakeholders in Howard County are invited to an upcoming community outreach meeting to discuss the proposed extension of the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit service. According to the Howard County Government's official news release, the project, which aims to enhance regional transit connectivity, will be presented by the Howard County Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Office of Transportation.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 23rd, at 4 p.m. at the Kossiakoff Conference Center at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel. County Executive Calvin Ball underscored the significance of the initiative, stating, "Through the expansion of the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit service to Howard County, our residents, employees, and visitors will gain access to efficient, regional transit services in the Washington region." He also conveyed his vision for the project’s role in local growth by saying, "By establishing stronger transit connections with our neighbors, Howard County will continue to be the best place to live, work, play, grow, and thrive for all," as reported by county's official news release.
The extension project plans to connect critical points within Howard County, such as Maple Lawn, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, and The Mall in Columbia, to Montgomery County and potentially wider regions. Riding on the aspirations of spring 2026 for the commencement of this service, Howard County is looking ahead to a future with improved mobility for its citizens.
There will be no formal presentation at the meeting, but design plans will be open for public viewing. DPW staff members will be on hand to explain the proposed work, answer any questions, and gather public comments. For those unable to attend, questions and requests to view the plans can be directed to Ms. Caitlin Kovel from the DPW's Transportation and Special Projects Division at [email protected] or Mr. David Cookson from the Office of Transportation at [email protected].
