Motorists in Howard County should brace for construction-induced changes to their commute starting September 23rd. As reported by Howard County's official news release, a new construction project aims to erect a retaining wall along Woodbine Morgan Road beside the South Branch Patapsco River in Woodbine. The project, set to stabilize the dam and improve both the shoulder and traffic barrier, is scheduled, weather permitting, to be completed by late December 2024.
However, the necessary work will force the closure of Woodbine Morgan Road in both directions during construction hours. The road will not be accessible between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. During this period, a detour will guide vehicles via Woodbine Road, Old Frederick Road, and Woodbine Station Road. The detour is expected to be marked for drivers.
Howard County has taken steps to inform the public of the closure. Signs will be posted well ahead of the project's beginning to ensure that motorists are aware of the impending changes to their routes.
According to the county's press release, the authorities are urging drivers who travel through the work zone to stay alert, particularly when following at safe distances. "Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone," the official statement says. "Remember, work zone safety is in your hands." With reduced speed limits and possibly narrower lanes, vigilance is not just recommended but necessary for the safety of both workers and drivers.
