Goody Goody Burgers, an iconic Tampa eatery with roots tracing back to 1925, is set to close its doors at its Hyde Park Village location after a nearly 10-year revival period. The announcement was made by the 1905 Family of Restaurants, according to WFLA, citing a combination of factors including the challenging economic climate and strategic efforts to streamline the company's core restaurant concepts.
The Hyde Park location, which opened to much fanfare in 2016, was a labor of love for Richard Gonzmart, president of 1905 Family of Restaurants, and his revitalization of the brand included original recipes, furniture, and the iconic sign. However, the upcoming closure, set for September 29, brings an end to this chapter of Goody Goody's storied history. In a statement obtained by the Business Observer, Gonzmart insisted the company is in "great shape," despite the Hyde Park Village location's closure, which he described as a decision made "with our head as well as with our heart."
Amid this transition, the Goody Goody restaurant in Airside C at Tampa International Airport will continue to operate, ensuring the brand's legacy endures in some capacity. Fans of the brand's burger P.O.X. and Butterscotch Pie will find solace in the fact that these beloved menu items will be available at the Columbia Cafe on the Tampa Riverwalk starting October 1, as reported by ABC Action News.
In light of the impending closure, Richard Gonzmart has expressed a heartfelt appreciation for the community and memories created at the Hyde Park venue. "Goody Goody has brought us immense joy and pride since its revival, and the memories we’ve shared with the Hyde Park Village community will always be cherished," Gonzmart said in a statement provided to WFLA. Furthermore, all 60 employees of the Hyde Park location will be offered positions at other restaurants within the 1905 Family of Restaurants group, a gesture that speaks to the company's commitment to its staff amidst changing times.
Goody Goody's Hyde Park Village location will remain operational with a limited menu until September 29, open daily from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. As the community prepares to bid farewell to this local favorite, Gonzmart extends an invitation to patrons, saying, "We are grateful for the memories we’ve created together and look forward to welcoming you at our other locations."
