In a surprising turn of events, a Michigan inmate has been granted a colossal $100 million in a default judgment against Sean "Diddy" Combs. The ruling came about after Combs failed to respond to the allegations in court. Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, the prisoner who brought the suit against the music mogul, claimed that Combs drugged and sexually assaulted him at a Detroit afterparty in 1997, an allegation that Combs' legal team vehemently denies.
Despite the inmate's alleged history with the judicial system, having filed over 30 civil lawsuits as noted by LA Times, the judge ordered the hefty payout to commence in October, with Combs to pay $10 million a month over ten months. The plaintiff, Cardello-Smith, is serving a considerable sentence, one for which the least he will be released is July 2036, for numerous sexual offenses as detailed in the CBS News Detroit report. Meanwhile, Combs' attorney Marc Agnifilo has criticized the plaintiff in a statement to USA Today, labeling him a "convicted felon and sexual predator".
Reflecting on recent activities surrounding the "Mo' Money, Mo' Problems" singer, it’s notable that Combs has faced a slew of accusations in the past years. He has been the target of multiple lawsuits alleging sexual assault and even abuse. Nevertheless, Combs insists on his innocence across the board. The current controversy has pushed him out of the limelight, prompting New York City Mayor Eric Adams to ask for the return of the key to the city, an honor awarded to Combs in 2023 as reported by CBS News Detroit.
