After Hurricane Helene caused destruction in western North Carolina, Johnston County officials are launching a donation drive to help those affected by the storm. Starting Monday, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services will be accepting donations of essential items to aid hurricane victims in their recovery.
The items sought for the donation drive cover basic needs from bottled water and non-perishable food to hygiene products and baby essentials. A drive-thru donation line will be set up at the Sheriff's Office to make it as convenient as possible for residents to give back. Donors can easily drop off items from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the first day of the drive., and the drive will continue daily, Tuesday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, as stated by the Johnston County.
According to an announcement on the official Johnston County website, a comprehensive list of items has been provided to guide donors. Desire to support extends beyond the physical donations, and thus residents who prefer to contribute financially can do so by making checks payable to the County of Johnston Relief Fund and mentioning "Western NC/Helene" in the memo line.
All donations, whether bottled water or financial gifts, reflect the county's commitment to helping those in urgent need. For more information about the donation drive, interested parties are encouraged to contact the Johnston County Sheriff's Office at 919-989-5010.
