A 34-year-old man was arrested on multiple felony charges following a drug bust in Kalamazoo, as confirmed by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. The arrest, which occurred last Friday, culminated from a joint effort between the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) and the Crime Reduction Team. Before executing the search warrant at a Hotop Avenue residence, the suspect found on Portage Street, attempted to elude officers who tried to apprehend him on an outstanding warrant. During the arrest, authorities reported he discarded illegal drugs and resisted arrest, yet, no officers were injured in the process.
Per details from FOX 17, investigators seized distribution quantities of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, a loaded gun, and drug paraphernalia from the suspect's vehicle. A search of the residence on the 1100 block of Hotop Avenue resulted further in the discovery of equipment believed to be used for the manufacturing and sale of drugs, along with a large sum of cash suspected to be the proceeds of drug sales. The suspect, yet to be named, is being detained at the Kalamazoo County Jail and is expected to face multiple felony charges at his arraignment.
According to WWMT, the arrest transpired during a planned search of a residence on Hotop Avenue near Charlotte Avenue, stemming from an investigation into drug sales in the area. The 34-year-old, caught on Portage Street before the raid, threw away illegal drugs and resisted arrest but was ultimately taken into custody without causing harm to the arresting officers.
Extensive as the investigation was, the findings of the raid have prompted a call to the public for any additional information related to the case.
