An automobile fire that spread to the surrounding brush in Sylmar was quickly contained by firefighters today. According to an alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the incident was reported at 11:48 a.m. along the northbound 5 Freeway and involved a fully engulfed big rig truck. The fire extended into approximately a quarter of the nearby brush, burning up steep terrain under calm weather conditions.
The fire crews, which included firefighters from station 75 and various others in the Valley Bureau, successfully contained the brush fire by 12:29 p.m. "Firefighters fully contained the brush fire and extinguished the big rig fire with no injuries reported," stated the updated LAFD alert. Despite the potential for rapid spread, no structures were damaged in the incident, a stroke of good fortune during what could have been a more devastating event.
No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident. Crews remained on scene to perform clean-up tasks, and officials reported that no further updates would be provided.
