In an unfortunate incident yesterday morning in Lancaster County, a horse was killed after being hit by a minivan. The Pennsylvania State Police reported that the collision occurred at approximately 6:01 a.m. on Churchtown Road near Main Street in Salisbury Township. The vehicle involved was a 2011 Dodge Caravan which, after striking the horse that was standing in the road, went on to collide with a utility pole, according to information provided by Local21News.
Despite the severity of the crash, which required the minivan to be towed from the scene, the two occupants of the vehicle did not sustain injuries. While traveling in the southbound lane of Churchtown Road, the Dodge Caravan encountered the horse and, after the initial impact, veered off into the northbound lane striking a PP&L utility pole, ABC27 News detailed.
The animal was killed upon impact, and officers were subsequently able to remove it from the roadway. WGAL News reported that the horse died from injuries sustained in the crash, stating, "The horse died from the initial impact of the crash."
Details surrounding how the horse came to be on the road at that early hour remain unclear.
