An investigation is underway by the Los Angeles Police Department's Force Investigation Division following an officer-involved shooting that occurred in North Hollywood on September 16. In a statement released by the LAPD, officers responded to a radio call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon in the 12100 block of Victory Boulevard. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Sean Griffin, was reported to have fired shots into an occupied vehicle, resulting in one casualty.
According to the LAPD's news release, the confrontation began when Griffin allegedly pointed a firearm at responding officers, leading to the first officer-involved shooting. Griffin then attempted to flee on foot, which culminated in two additional shootings by police. In the final encounter inside a multi-story parking structure, Griffin once again pointed his weapon toward officers, prompting the third shooting. Griffin was hit by police gunfire and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
During the initial investigation, a firearm was recovered next to Griffin, with one round chambered and two additional rounds in the magazine. Police also found other live rounds on Griffin. The LAPD has not reported any injuries among the involved officers. Operation Valley Bureau Homicide investigators are looking into the homicide of the victim from the original assault call, who was declared deceased at the scene.
The Force Investigation Division is conducting an in-depth analysis of the officer-involved shootings. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has also taken part in the preliminary investigation, as detailed by the LAPD's announcement. As further information from witnesses and forensic evidence becomes available, the details of the case may evolve. The full circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under careful examination as additional evidence is to be collected and analyzed.
