The Los Angeles Police Department is actively seeking assistance from the public to identify the driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that left a 63-year-old woman severely injured in Sherman Oaks. The collision, which occurred on September 6 just before 6:00 p.m., was captured on video and later released by the LAPD in hopes of gathering leads, as reported by KTLA.
Details from the video show a black Hyundai sedan, with tinted windows, making a westbound turn on Ventura Boulevard onto Costello Avenue. It was there that the driver struck the victim, who had been walking in a crosswalk. Following the collision, law enforcement articulated the driver did stop briefly only to subsequently drive off, fleeing the scene by heading south on Costello Avenue and west on Davana Terrace. According to a statement obtained by LAPD Online, paramedics quickly transported the injured woman to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The LAPD's description of the suspect vehicle zeroes in on it being a four-door black Hyundai sedan. Unfortunately, at this time, no license plate number is available to further assist in identification. Footage of the distressing incident can be viewed on YouTube, providing potential witnesses with a clearer image of the vehicle and the circumstances of the event.
The authorities are urging anyone with information on the hit-and-run to step forward. They can directly contact Valley Traffic Detectives at (818) 644-8000. For those who wish to remain anonymous, there is the option to call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477), or they can choose to text information to 274637, with messages ideally beginning with "LAPD." The LAPD reminds drivers that in the event of an accident, they are legally required to stop, identify themselves, and render aid, as opposed to fleeing the scene which casts long shadows of injustice over our city streets.
