
A tense standoff in Las Vegas' Central Valley ended without injury after a man was taken into custody by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's SWAT team, following a barricade situation that disrupted the neighborhood around Alta Drive and Antelope Way.
The incident began around 4:40 p.m. yesterday, when police were called to a domestic disturbance on Cloud Circle, News 3 LV reports. A 57-year-old man, according to the police report, got into an altercation and, a physical fight with his wife and stepdaughter. When the women exited the house to wait for law enforcement, the suspect "opened the garage door and pointed a handgun at them," police indicated.
The situation escalated when the man barricaded himself inside the residence. A SWAT response was prompted, leading to street closures and heightened tension in the area. The standoff ended peacefully, with FOX5 Vegas reporting that Metro police confirmed the suspect was taken into custody later that evening, around 11:30 p.m., with no injuries reported.
Roads that, were shut down during the incident, including Alta Drive and adjacent streets, were reopened following the resolution. The scene had initially prompted a sizeable law enforcement presence, resulting in street closures at Alta Drive between Serra Street and Vincent Way from Alta Drive to Camp Fire Road during the operation.
The Las Vegas community was alerted to the road closures and the ongoing law enforcement activity, with no further details on charges or the identity of the suspect released immediately.
