The city's sense of tranquility was punctured by the sound of gunfire last night as the Long Beach Police Department reported two separate shooting incidents that occurred within minutes of one another. According to the LBPD's official report, the first incident took place on the 5800 block of Locust Avenue at about 9:37 p.m., where officers found evidence of a shooting, though no individuals were harmed. The shootings, in which no one was reported injured, saw suspects fleeing the scene before law enforcement arrived. While the shooters remain unidentified, the investigation into this act of violence is presently underway.
Almost simultaneously, at approximately 9:39 p.m., officers raced to the 500 block of Linden Avenue in response to another shot call, as per the LBPD. In this second episode, as well, responders discovered signs of a shootout. No victims have been located and those responsible for the discharge had vacated the premises before police arrival, leaving authorities in pursuit of motives and culprits behind these apparent eruptions of aggression.
In contrast to these unresolved shootings, the LBPD did chart a victory against potential violence that same evening. Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Henderson Street around 11:36 p.m. During the execution of this intervention, officers came upon and confiscated an undocumented firearm, leading to an arrest. The Long Beach Police Department shared that the individual, found with the gun taken off them, has been apprehended, with inquiries on the individual's intentions and previous activities persisting.
