In a recent ruling that has resonated through the Shadow Bay community in Longwood, Florida, Diane Goglas has been given a 10-day ultimatum to rectify a critical drainage issue she caused. Goglas filled a neighborhood drainage pipe with concrete earlier this year, which has resulted in substantial flooding and community distress. According to FOX 35 Orlando, if the repairs are not completed within the set timeframe, fines will be imposed on Goglas.
Moving the previously set October 1 deadline forward, Judge Donna Goerner ordered the emergency repair with significant urgency following harmful consequences suffered by the residents. A report by WFTV highlights the severity of the situation, revealing that one neighbor's routine delivery of oxygen was nearly compromised due to high water levels caused by the blockage.
The obstruction has led to worsening conditions with each passing storm, trapping cars and seeping into the foundations of homes. Barbara Stage, attorney for the Shadow Bay Homeowners Association, stated, per FOX 35 Orlando, that the judgment has brought a "relief for all these homeowners who have been stressed, lost sleep, and worried about their own safety."
While Goglas has remained steadfast in her belief that the entire neighborhood should contribute to the cost of repairs, claiming "It should be a united thing," as she told reporters when the elevator doors were closing, the court has not shifted its stance. Should Goglas fail to meet the judge's deadline, Seminole County has the authority to perform the necessary repairs and, subsequently, bill Goglas for the expenses. "We are so grateful,” HOA treasurer Robin Rodriguez said in the hallway shortly after the injunction was announced. “So very grateful. It’s a little surreal after six months of living this," as detailed by WFTV.
